The
Geotechnical Research Laboratory is a division of the Civil and Environmental Engineering
Department at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. The Geotechnical Research
Laboratory is currently led by Professor Samuel G. Paikowsky (Sc.D. MIT). The
geotechnical program offers an active and informative learning environment for students of
various learning styles and interests. Students gain hands-on experience in design,
testing, and analysis in the laboratory, in the field, and in the classroom.
Professors concentrate on fundamental aspects as well as applied engineering
problems. Our diverse and extensive research is supported by the National Science
Foundation, Federal Highway Administration, Massachusetts Highway Department, National
Research Council, Transportation Research Board as well as private organizations.
The level of funding demonstrates the success of our research projects and our involvement
in fundamental research along with the dedication to address practical engineering
problems.
